Our vetting process

  • Verify active operating authority and matching legal entity
  • Confirm insurance limits, effective dates, and certificate holder
  • Review FMCSA safety rating and CSA BASIC percentiles
  • Check operating history, equipment type, and lane experience
  • Re-verify insurance at every dispatch, not just at onboarding

Filing a claim

Note any damage or shortage on the delivery receipt before the driver leaves — an unnoted exception makes a claim significantly harder. Photograph the freight and the packaging, keep the damaged goods available for inspection, and call us the same day. We file with the carrier's insurer, supply the BOL, POD, and rate confirmation, and manage the claim to resolution.

Trust and safety FAQ

Is Backhaulers licensed and bonded?

Yes. Backhaulers operates under FMCSA broker authority and maintains the required $75,000 broker surety bond (BMC-84).

What insurance do your carriers carry?

Every carrier we book must carry at least $1,000,000 auto liability and $100,000 cargo insurance, verified as active at the time of dispatch. Higher limits are arranged for high-value freight.

How do you vet carriers?

We check active operating authority, FMCSA safety rating and CSA BASIC scores, insurance limits and effective dates, and operating history. Carriers with unsatisfactory ratings or lapsed coverage are not dispatched.

What happens if my freight is damaged?

Note the damage on the delivery receipt, photograph it, and call us. We open the claim with the carrier's insurer, supply the BOL and POD, and stay on it until it resolves. Standard carrier liability is limited, so tell us the commodity value up front if you need additional coverage.

Do you prevent double-brokering?

Our carrier agreement prohibits re-brokering without written consent, and we verify the arriving equipment and driver against the dispatched carrier.
